I think the main idea behind the Masterbuilt 20070311 40-Inch Electric Smokehouse with Window and RF Controller is to contain the heat inside the unit and to keep it there for optimal smoking effect. What I Like about the Masterbuilt 20070311

I have used a lot of electric smokers since my buddies and I usually do a lot of grilling and smoking during the weekends. We did the math and found that it’s more expensive to eat out in restaurants than cook our own food. So we put our cooking skills to good use and we eventually made our own electric smoker recipes. One of our buddies bought this particular Masterbuilt smoker and here are my thoughts about it.

  • Woodchip Loader: The woodchip loader is one bit of smart design. Keeping heat inside smokers is a big issue. It takes time to build up the needed heat inside the chamber. Each time you open the door you lose a significant amount of heat (which can happen if you keep loading wood chips).
  • Remote Control: Having a remote control is another innovative idea. Well, most of the cooking time will be spent on waiting for your meat to get cooked. For the boys, that is time well spent on a good game of friendly poker. With this remote, I can join the fun and smoke the food any time. I can check the internal temp as the game progresses.
  • Easy Assembly: I didn’t have much problems assembling this Masterbuilt electric smoker. Putting the thing together was pretty straightforward. The only challenge is to get the screw holes to align. I guess that’s one of the few defects that I find annoying.

Downsides

Even though I think that this is one of the best electric smokers out there, there are a few things that the manufacturer can improve on. The first issue I have against this Masterbuilt is its heat retention. If you open the front door for only a few seconds, the unit already loses a lot of internal temperature.

I also wish it had features for cold smoking. Well, I found out that Masterbuilt also sells a separate cold smoker that you can attach to this 40-inch model but that’s an extra 70 bucks that I think should have been included here in the first place.

In spite of these downsides I still think the Masterbuilt 20070311 40-Inch Electric Smokehouse with Window and RF Controllerhas a lot of good features that come with it. It’s truly one of the best models I’ve seen so far.
